Code of Conduct
This proposed Code of Conduct will be resubmitted for a membership vote at the June 2025 PTA membership meeting. Please contact the PTA President, president@ps111pta.org, with any suggestions, concerns, or potential addition.
The PS 111 PTA is an all-volunteer organization entirely composed of parents and caregivers from the PS 111 community who generously donate their time to improve our school for the benefit of our children. All PTA volunteers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
Code of Conduct Goals
- To ensure a respectful and inclusive volunteering environment.
- To ensure that the PTA remains a trusted partner among our families, school, and community.
To meet these goals, PS 111 PTA volunteers are expected to:
I. Maintain a Respectful Environment
- Treat every individual with respect, courtesy, and dignity.
- Understand that we have differing backgrounds, opinions, skillsets, and life situations.
- Be willing to compromise. We benefit from the diversity of opinions and knowledge in our community.
- Never harass, bully, mock, impugn the character of, or otherwise mistreat any individual.
II. Act with Professionalism
- Support the educational process, and avoid disrupting it. We are here to support our wonderful teachers and students.
- Honor commitments to the extent possible, and notify the event coordinator or PTA Board when a commitment cannot be fulfilled.
- Not present themselves as representatives of the PS 111 PTA, or send material on behalf of the PTA, without permission from the PTA President.
- Never present themselves to external entities as school employees or representatives of the New York City Department of Education.
III. Act with Integrity
- Act honestly and ethically when representing the PS 111 PTA.
- Make decisions based on what is best for our students, our community, our school, and the PTA.
- Avoid sharing sensitive information without permission, including, but not limited to, images of children's and staff members' faces, children's full names, and the home addresses of volunteers.
- Receive authorization before making purchases that will be submitted for reimbursement. Purchases that have not been authorized will not be reimbursed.
- Never use the PTA's sales tax exemption for personal or reimbursable purchases. The tax exemption must only be used when the PTA directly pays for the good or service.
- Except when required to complete work on behalf of the PTA and school, volunteers and members of the PTA Board must not grant themselves privileges that our general membership does not possess. Examples include, but are not limited to, utilizing space in the school for private use without the permission of the school administration, or taking, borrowing, utilizing, or lending out PTA inventory, equipment, or other assets for private use or benefit.
- Lending equipment to PS 111 Adolph S. Ochs or other PTAs is not a violation of this Code.
This policy applies to all PS 111 PTA volunteers, including board members, committee leaders and members, and event and project volunteers.
